Spring Series Week #8 – June 22, 2021

After-Sailing Get Together at Dave Dunlap & Kathy Rubino’s

  • Where: 5061 S. Long Lake Dr, Portage (on Long Lake)
  • When: Tuesday June 22nd, after sailing
  • Why: Why not? It has been over a year since we’ve gathered as a fleet.
  • Results will be announced and other fleet business will be discussed. We can’t wait to reunite with old friends and meet new ALCA members!
  • Bring: Your own adult beverage of choice. We have a few yard chairs, but not enough seating for everyone, so bring a chair if you wish. Barbeque chicken sandwiches with coleslaw and lemonade will be provided by ALCA. Snacks and desserts to share are appreciated if you are interested in bringing something.
  • Parking: Our driveway, the grass between the garden beds and the street, and well as the property across the street, which we own. Park perpendicular to the street on these.
  • Cars with boat trailers can park parallel along the street east of our property on the side opposite the lake (between our house and East R Ave).
  • If sailing is cancelled, the party will start earlier, around 7 pm.

Spring Series Week #4 – May 25, 2021

Alright, now it’s HOT 🥵!  For Week 4 our spring series. The forecast is calling for mid 80s but SUNNY with winds around 13-17 mph gusting 25.  Lake is reportedly warm…

With winds like this make sure you are prepared with a RIGHTING LINE, and confident that you can right your own boat… More than likely we will NOT have a chase boat. And it is difficult for race committee to lift anchor to try to help people get righted in between races.  Be aware you will be at the mercy of others if you do flip and cannot right your own boat.

And if you see somebody in trouble and you have crew you can of course at your option help them.

First start sequence begins at 6:30 PM

Dave Dunlap is RC this week so thanks in advance for the effort Dave!

Spring Series Week #3 – May 18, 2021

Good News Everyone!

It’s finally forecasted to be warmer! Tuesday is week 3 of our spring series. The forecast is calling for mid 70s but SUNNY with winds around 9 mph gusting 15….The feels like temp (windchill) is predicted to be around 73 degrees. The water more than likely will feel warmer but a wetsuit may still be a good idea this early in the season.

First start sequence begins at 6:30 PM

Spring Series Week #2 – May 11, 2021

Alright everyone, round 2.

Tomorrow is week 2 of our spring series, I think we are in a little better condition this week than last. The forecast is calling for mid 50s but SUNNY with winds 10 to 12 mph gusting 14… The water more than likely hasn’t had much of a chance to warm since last week when the temp was reported to be 60 degrees by shore.  It feels like temp (windchill) is predicted to be around 48 degrees. All that being said, make sure to check Facebook/email for potential cancellations and if we do race make sure to dress appropriately and be safe.

Please dress warm!

Inexperienced sailors please come out with a crew while it’s cold like this.

First start sequence is at 6:30 PM

Dave Dunlap is RC this week so thanks in advance for the effort Dave!

Summer is coming! (eventually)
